Question: What is detox?

Answer: Detox is the short form for detoxification. It refers to a natural ongoing process in our bodies, which neutralize toxic wastes that are ingested into your body. Toxic waste accumulates in your body because of breathing in air full of pollutants, consuming junk food, smoking cigarettes etc. If not eliminated through urine or stools, these toxic wastes can cause you great harm.

Question: What is Detox Diet?

Answer: Detox diet is a diet that helps your bodies to eliminate harmful toxic wastes more efficiently. There are many types of detox diets. There is no one definition. However, a typical detox diet usually includes high fiber foods and consumption of adequate amount of water. It normally includes fresh and green vegetables, plenty of fruits and other healthy foods like garlic, artichokes, beets, rice, beans, nuts and seeds.

Some people also use the the term “detox diet” to mean a dedicated detox diet plan program for cleansing of toxins from a specific part of the body. For instance, there can be detox diet programs for cleansing of the colon, liver or the GI tract. Such dedicated detox diet programs are mostly short-term diets.

Some people also use detox diets for weight loss. Detox diet programs of this nature work by giving your body some organic compounds designed to increasing the frequency of bowel movements and urination; thus enabling you to clear your toxic waste faster. However, you should always make sure that such detox diet progams are generally safe before embarking on one.


Question: What are the benefits to adopting a Detox Diet?

Answer: When you reguarly consume unhealthy diet, you impair the natural ability of your body to detox and cleanse itself of toxic chemicals. You start to experience symptoms which are indicative of the toxin level in your body. They include weight gain, allergies, hair and skin problems, digestive disorders, etc. The presence of toxins further lead to conditions like hormonal imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency and inefficient metabolism.

A detox diet is meant to repair and enhance the natural detoxification abilities of your body. When toxins are removed more efficiently from your system, you will begin to feel lighter. Some of the benefits of detox diets include fat loss, increased energy, enhanced mental alertness, improved skin texture, better immune system and improved digestion.
